Pros

Great benefits regardless of full time or part-time status. Unlimited jury duty. Typically a lot of good people and a diverse workforce It's a good job for those without a college degree or those in school. For those that desire, there frequent opportunities to promote, switch departments, etc. You get to meet plenty of good people as well. When leadership is good, it's phenomenal. All in all, the job ultimately is what you make of it, for better or worse.

Cons

The leadership is pretty horrible and the few good leaders are treated terribly. Many good leaders are running out the door. Employee retention is terrible. There's very little flexibility, even though they tell you otherwise when hired. It's easy to get stuck there and they often make people believe there's no better job out there. Very underpaid for the type of work it is, the urgency and danger they teach you it is. Good natural leaders and people deserving and worthy of promotions often get overlooked for promotions. Some leaders tend to be lazy and have "I'm only here for a paycheck" mentality but don't practice what they preach. Very little care for their officers. Favoritism is also a huge issue. Many people making rules and regulations have little experience in practical work and disregard most suggestions form officers. A lot of immaturities on all levels. Tends to feel like high school and less like a professional workplace.
