For the most-part, it’s a fun and exciting job… Who doesn’t want to think about holidays 24/7?
But it can become extremely competitive given that the sales staff work on commission.
Managers tend to move from one store to another (I worked there for 3 years and had 4 different managers) and if not up to expectations in the amount of profit you’re making for the company, the manager will let it be known. I experienced being humiliated in front of the entire team for not hitting a target. There is a lot of favouritism between managers/regional managers and some staff members. Since a lot in the industry have been so for a long time, everyone gets to know everyone. Our area manager was best friends with our shop manager so when one of the other girls in the shop tried to raise a grievance against her for bullying, nothing happened. It was brushed under the carpet & said colleague ended up leaving as a result of the backlash.
Overall, loved the job itself, but the people… That’s another question.
