To address the pros: I'm glad that we were able to provide this instructor a fair amount of students. One of our primary goals is to provide student to quality instructors in need.
To address the cons:
The students are far away - This is a fair concern. Here's some background that we find relevant... The average student demographic and the average instructor demographic can be very different. For example, many of our instructors live downtown, near the venues that they perform in and near the studios that they record in. Our clients tend to have multiple children and live in the suburbs. This is not a hard a fast rule. It just means that, often, students and instructors live in different parts of town. This means that if an instructor is choosing to go to their student's homes, it can mean a bit of a drive. To make it worth-while, we do charge a travel fee and pay the entire fee to the instructors that go to their students. We also try to group students together in the schedule that live near each other so an instructor can do multiple lessons when going to a particular part of the city. Also, for instructors that do not want to travel at all, we can have the students come to their studio locations or participate in live webcam lessons.
Instructors at Taylor Robinson Music get paid different rates depending on a number of circumstances. If an instructor drives to a student they are paid extra for travel. Also, when instructors have retention rates that put them above of the company average, they also get paid more per hour. Also, half hour lessons pay a higher rate per minute than full hour lessons do. On average, instructors with Taylor Robinson Music get paid around $28 per hour. Whether this is considered a "poor wage" is somewhat subjective. Some instructors, see our service of providing students, handling billing and scheduling as a valuable asset. Those that have no trouble doing that for themselves, or even enjoy it, may very well find it more profitable to not work with Taylor Robinson Music.
Terrible instructor sites / too many sites to work from: This is actually a fair point. At the time this review was posted, there were two sites that instructor used to work with Taylor Robinson Music. One was to manage payouts and one was to manage the online profile as it appeared on the website. We have since addressed this issue and created a single instructor site that handles both of these functions in a much easier way. We have also created an app that allows instructors to manage their account from their mobile phones.
False advertised payments: I'm not sure what this is referring to. Our payout policy is detailed and agreed to in writing before instructors come on board. All posting showing opening for instructors also detail these policies. Again, instructors (on average) make around $28/hour.
Takes away 30% for them: This is actually pretty accurate. This percentage varies as instructor pay varies dependent on the circumstances listed above. Also, the amount students pay varies dependent on the size of the package they sign up for. The 30% that is left for the company goes to pay for office staff, instructor support, customer service, sales, marketing, human resources, accounting, credit card processing fees, and other overhead. Again, for some instructors (that have a full schedule) this wage and split is not beneficial. However, many instructors prefer to use Taylor Robinson Music provided students to fill in open spots in their schedule even if it means having to split up the benefit with a third party. We are not for everyone but we hope to provide a valuable service to both students AND instructors who need what we are able to offer. We also pride ourselves on our transparency and straight-forward manner in which we conduct business.
