Pros

It's a fantastic idea. In the regions where operations take place the volunteers are hard working, kind, and take care of one another. I think they are part of Team Rubicon for the right reasons.

Cons

The headquarters in Los Angeles was vastly different than the regions from a leadership standpoint. Leaders sometimes bad mouthed each other in front of employees. It left me wondering if they were bad mouthing me. The awards for best workplace are great for marketing but they are not a good measure of the leadership or the culture. We were coached how to answer questionnaires because the recognition attracted more qualified applicants. It left me feeling uneasy and that TR was more of a media company.

Pros

TR has a strong ethical mission and you know you're making a difference every day. The organization attracts unreal talent and the resulting personal and professional development is huge

Cons

Working for a nonprofit with a large and enthusiastic volunteer base means they only hire staff to do things volunteers refuse to do. Attracting strong talent results in a highly competitive environment when it comes to advancement. Benefits are great, but don't expect to have both work/life balance and career advancement. You will have to pick one or the other.
