Company suffering with growth, staff are paying the price - Administrative Techbuyer Employee Review

Pros

Benefits - Cycle to work, retail discounts, technology sacrifice schemes and health insurance. Staff - One thing you'll likely not have any issues with while working at Techbuyer is the staff, they're generally very friendly and will make working here tolerable. Training & progression - Techbuyer will train you as is needed, paying for any relevant courses to assist in your progression, this is something they do very well. With the rapid expansion of this company, it is very likely the opportunity for progression will present its self.

Cons

Techbuyer is a somewhat unique company that is difficult to recommend, but could most definitely be somewhere you could be quite content working. With a most definite chance of training and progression due to the rapid growth of the company. Working hours - Normal working hours are 9-6 Monday to Friday, the reasoning behind this extra hour each day is that Techbuyers major competitors close at 5. Tehcbuyer staying open until 6 allows them to effectively secure more business during this time period. The extra hours are mandatory for all employees, while you could somewhat understand that a warehouse dispatcher may be required to work these extra hours, this reasoning falls flat when you take into account departments such as HR, payroll or marketing that have no direct influence on a 5.30pm customer order are all required to work the additional hours. Under the assumption that normal business hours are 9-5, or 7.5 working hours paid per day at most companies, these extra 5 hours contribute to almost an additional full day of work each week. Holiday entitlement - Techbuyer annual holiday entitlement is 20 days for full-time employees, essentially the minimum in which is required to allocate staff by law. This increases by 1 day per year of service. While most companies offer 25 days, you would need 5 years of service at techbuyer before you reach what is considered standard holiday entitlement within most comapanies. Unfortunately similarly to working hours, techbuyer also falls short in this category. Salary - Based on personal experiences, pay seems low to average and the extra working hours are not reflected in your salary. A portion of your salary may be considered as an uncapped commission. This could result in your pay fluctuating on a monthly basis. While if you work in sales you may be used to this form of pay tactic, techbuyer have been known to employ this method of pay to non-sales staff, within positions where you essentially have zero control over company profit targets. This could either be seen as a negative or positive dependent on your outlook. Benefits - Techbuyer will provide alcoholic drinks to staff each Friday afternoon, while also providing free meals for staff on the last Friday of each month. The company will also occasionally provide a free bar on organized work evenings out. These free drink and food benefits no doubt help to increase general employee happiness. Looking at this benefit from another perspective it could be simply seen as a gimmick or manipulation in order to maintain and raise morale within the company, while in reality I'm sure the majority of staff would rather prefer normalised, standard working hours and annual holiday entitlement. As said previously, techbuyer is an interesting company which appears to be suffering from growing pains due to huge recent quick expansion. They appear on the surface to continue to act like a small, family run company when the reality is that they are now a multinational business providing jobs to hundreds of employees across the globe. It's difficult to look at their current offerings to staff in the terms of pay, working hours and holiday entitlement and not make the assumption that the CEO and partners are simply taking advantage of its workers. While other companies are looking to reduce working hours with no loss of productivity, techbuyer appears to be stuck in the past requiring you to work longer than average hours. That being said, morale in general seems high, so if you're able to get past the sub-par offerings of this company to it's employees and the obvious profit chasing at any cost, you will very much likely enjoy working here with a potential to progress due to quick expansion and provided training.

Due to the nature of the business and the fact that we are a 24/7 business the standard hours can not be altered. As our staff know, we are flexible and work together with our teams to create working patterns which suit according to their situation. Holiday entitlement is industry standard, starting off with 28 including bank holidays and rising to 33. We Benchmark all departments in terms of salaries and offer a competitive salary package for our location plus a generous benefits package. Any overtime is paid along with company bonuses each year.

Pros

Laid back, great people to work with, monthly lunch on company

Cons

Pretty much no room for growth nor getting raises unless you're management it seems. Management is also pretty bad, and people get replaced a lot - not many people quit.. its usually being fired.
