If You Enjoy Chaos, You’ll Love It Here - Sales Manager Techcyte Employee Review

Pros

There are some good employees at Techcyte. Unfortunately, most are looking elsewhere.

Cons

Techcyte is what happens when a company tries to run on guesswork, panic, and whatever idea leadership dreamt up that morning. Priorities change so fast you’ll wonder if you hallucinated yesterday’s instructions. Communication is a coin toss, and accountability doesn’t seem to exist anywhere above the employee level. People disappear from the org chart with no explanation, and the message is always the same: don’t get too comfortable. Stability, clarity, and competent direction are not part of the package. If you’re looking for a workplace that functions like an actual company, keep looking. If you want a front‑row seat to organizational whiplash, this is your spot.

Pros

I have been here for 5 years, and it has been great for me and my family. My team is awesome and I love working with them. I've taken a lot of parental leave in the past 5 years, and have always felt supported by my company and team before and after taking that time off. My managers have also been very accommodating and allowed me to have a very flexible schedule so I can help out at home more during the day. I think the products are really cool. I like working in healthcare; even if it's slow sometimes, I feel good knowing we're building something that will help people. I'm happy with the projects I get to work on, my salary, and benefits. I've not had a lot of interaction with the leadership team, but from what I've seen in company wide meetings, they genuinely want the company to succeed. Also other coworkers who interact with them more than I do have only ever said good things about them.

Cons

Techcyte is remote first. Which could also be a pro, depending on what you want. Remote work has been a pro for me during this season of my life, but I think long term remote work would be a con. It gets lonely sometimes. There has been one company wide layoff since I started 5 years ago, but I don't think that's too different from other tech companies.

Pros

Remote work on interesting topics (digital pathology).

Cons

Lack of communication of expectations. Targets are constantly changing (probably because the Sales team goes gangbusters and is not aligned with prod). Unclear directives. One person will tell you what you should be working on, and then another will act like you should have been doing something else...and even worse, talk negatively about you. I was once judged there for work that actually wasn't mine, because the person complaining didn't bother to check his facts. It took me almost a year to dispel the negative vibe he created about me, even though it was work I had nothing to do with! Just because a guy has an upper-level position, does not mean he knows what he's talking about in every discipline. This was very unfair. Also, I'm happy to meet metrics if I know what they are. Despite this, I received excellent employee reviews and would have remained loyal to the company indefinitely because I believed in its purpose and hoped the negative things would get better. It's an exciting SaaS, but it's having severe growing pains that they are apparently ill-equipped to handle, and those of us not privy to upper-management conversations end up as collateral damage. Also, my severance was close to my unused vacation pay, so I basically received no severance. That's not very upstanding.
