Pros

Great colleagues and collaborative teamwork Remote working culture

Cons

This is purely my opinion based on my experiences at TechnologyAdvice. I really enjoyed my time at TA until 2024. The implementation of ActivTrak to monitor employee computers marked a distressing turn in the company culture. The tracking measures "productivity" which varies widely from team to team, and each passing month mens the goal posts we're moved at the will of the Executive Team. Despite insisting this was implemented to help identify which teams needs more resources, instead we have seen many people lose their job. Many have lost their jobs without warning or an constructive criticism or support. TechnologyAdvice isn't interested in using their employee monitoring software to actually identify where employees are struggling or need help. For a company that preaches remote working and core values including "Be Transparent" and "Value Each Other", please be aware that they are tracking your computer and evaluating the data for needs that may not be in your best interest. It's a real shame because I and many others have enjoyed their time at TechnologyAdvice. However the working environment this year felt opressive and unreasonable. I have seen many people across all departments lose their jobs due to reasons not related to their performance which was considered great in their latest performance reviews. Since leaving TA, the relief I have found in not having everything I do on my computer tracked and analyzed is incomparable. I have found myself sitting at my personal computer trying to unlearn bad habits learned from working in this difficult environment.

Pros

- The people are a delight to work with! - Fully remote-first company with owners and executives who have repeatedly committed to staying fully remote. There are a few regional offices that some execs and nearby employees work out of optionally, but the vast majority of the company works remotely. - The company culture has years of remote-first experience and does a great job keeping teams connected despite the distance. - Management offers a lot of flexibility in work schedules as long as they average around 40 hours a week. - There is a strong focus on helping employees learn and grow, with great support for career development within the company. - The company leans heavily on promoting internally, including into management roles. - Lateral moves are also supported at times, with some employees having started in one department and transitioned into a completely different role. - Unlimited PTO (typically around 3-4 weeks per year in practice). - HR and executives actively listen to and act on employee feedback. - The culture is team-win oriented and supportive, so there is noticeably less internal competition than you might find elsewhere. Pro and con: The company culture centers on continuous improvement, which means employees are generally expected to bring ownership and initiative to their work. If you prefer a more heads-down, clock-in-clock-out style of work, this may not be the right fit.

Cons

From my perspective, exec and middle management planning still has room for improvement. Last year, leadership struggled to plan more than a month ahead, with priorities shifting significantly from month to month. This year has shown improvement, with planning horizons extending to a quarter or half year and fewer drastic shifts, though notable shifts still occur at times.

Pros

TechnologyAdvice is a great place to work with smart, kind, hardworking people who genuinely care about doing good work and helping each other succeed. There is a strong sense of ownership here, and employees are given opportunities to learn, try new things, and grow in meaningful ways. The company moves quickly, but that also creates room for people to make an impact and be part of important work. What stands out most is that leadership has clearly been focused on culture, consistency, and clear communication, and it shows. Our eNPS has been ticking upward, and that feels reflective of the work management has put into listening to employees, improving the experience, and creating stronger alignment across the company. There is a noticeable effort to make TA a place where people feel connected, informed, and supported, and that progress has been extremely evident.

Cons

Like any growing company, priorities can shift quickly, and teams sometimes have to adapt in real time.
