Pros
If you wanna work hard this is for you
Cons
The "care and concern" attitude is faker than a $3 bill. And the "safety first" theme is only because companies won't do business with them if they have a bad safety rating. Just do your job and don't get hurt. Your health doesn't matter either, you better just show up for work. It's like having a full bank of PTO is a badge of honor and PTO (which is also your only form of sick time) is just something they put on paper to make it look good for TV. I mean, they have to let you use it but the passive attitude towards time off can be very negative, especially if you've been sick (or have sick kids) then ask for time off to actually go on vacation. Salary employees get a bit more flexibility but still frowned upon when you need to take time off. Of course there are wonderful people there who have bought into the propaganda and hype who actually do care and make daily life tolerable (not realizing they are merely pawns, doing exactly what the execs programmed them to do), but to the executives and directors, you are a statistic and nothing more. I thought that working for an employee owned company meant something. But it didn't. It's still a bunch of greedy executives looking at charts and graphs trying to figure out how to pinch more work out of the little man to get a bigger bonus at the end of the year. You're just helping them out by buying company stock instead of public stock with your 401k. You're not treated any better and your voice only matters if it helps the bottom line, which in turn lines their pockets, not yours. Public or private, corporate greed prevails. And the bigger Terracon gets, the worse it gets. But boy does corporate put on a good show. 🎉
