Pros

Bowdoin offers the chance to engage with a diverse range of clients, spanning both executive search and Client Solutions, which adds an element of intrigue and variety to the work. The unique and considerate service provided by Bowdoin sets it apart from other agencies. I've gleaned invaluable recruitment insights from mentors past and present, continuing to apply these practices today. Bowdoin also ensures fair and competitive compensation, along with the perk of unlimited PTO.

Cons

Initially, I was attracted to Bowdoin for its inclusive and transparent culture. However, over time, it appears that Bowdoin has deviated from its original path. The culture has become cliquey, fostering excessive celebration that inflates egos and contributes to a toxic work environment. Additionally, while I appreciated Bowdoin's communicative and collaborative approach, it now leans towards overcommunication, excessive meetings, and expectations for rapid response times, which disrupts work-life balance and encourage micromanagement. The relocation from Waltham to Boston has further alienated some employees.

The Bowdoin Group Response
2y
Thank you for your write up. I agree that our business offering is unique in the market, and I am happy we receive continual positive feedback from our clients. As you point out, many things have changed since we moved to Boston in 2020. With our hybrid workforce, we take extra steps to communicate universally throughout the organization and have set up mechanisms for praise when team members feel others are overperforming. Based on your feedback, you think we are over-communicating and providing too many opportunities for praise. As you point out, our clients often require a rapid response to their needs; this, combined with our sense of urgency, can sometimes be stressful. It's true that meetings can sometimes take their own life; I encourage you and all team members to call out counterproductive meetings. It's the only way we get better. Finding a balance on these topics that works for everyone is complex, and your views are very important. I strongly encourage you to meet with me, HR, or your manager to share specific thoughts and ideas. Dave Melville

Pros

-Big emphasis on learning and development across the organization. Company rolled out Lattice recently which has helped drive this initiative at all levels of the org -Very fair compensation packages -Work/Life balance and flexibility -Incredibly diverse client base across Health and Tech which gives all employees exposure and opportunity to contribute to next generation innovative companies -Formal and informal mentorship highly encouraged across the team -Amazing Boston office in the heart of the city (on-site gym, subsidized parking in the building, free golf simulator, roof deck for the summer, and Tatte attached!)

Cons

-Currently operating with a lean team; although this has created a lot of opportunity for all levels to jump in and learn new skills -Boston traffic isn't always fun to deal with (but the ability to be flexible with hours helps)
