Pros
Travel. Most living expenses are taken care of during a project. Interesting interviews. Decent international work experience if your ambitions are solely in sales.
Cons
I'll always remember when I first started my onboarding, I asked the person training me, "Do you see yourself long-term with TBY?" They laughed and said, "I would kill myself if I stayed longer than X years." I laughed at the time, but I didn't realize that it was kind of a coded warning wrapped in a joke. The job is advertised as 'International Business Journalist'. You aren't. It is basically a sales assistant job with extra work. The workload is intense but tolerable. However, the horrible work culture makes the company a revolving door. Don't try to go to HR about superiors berating you. They are generally non-responsive. And one can only assume that you will most likely be ignored because they are too busy scrambling to figure out if/how they can pay you on time. It is a little dubious that they will send people to foreign countries without a proper work visa (ie. tourist) depending on the country, which may put you at risk. Of course, the only KPI is sales which speaks to how much they actually care about their content, and by extension you, in your role. You'll rarely encounter anyone that has actually ever heard of the magazine for a reason, as much as they like to peddle it as a niche product. Ironically, it is usually preventable but too late to repair the patchwork editorial quality 90% of the time. Why? They're too busy focusing on ads for the product vs. the product itself. It becomes a vicious cycle in which a competent editorial team goes undervalued or disrespected until the last minute and then become expected to make miracles. I've seen lots of bullying tactics and gaslighting used to try to achieve objectives. Screaming on phone calls and texting at all hours of the night ultimately demoralizes the team and creates tension. It's not reflective of a certain person(s) but the company culture as a whole given that it is an open secret amongst field teams across continents.
