Pros

Pay started at $10 an hour, which is great for retail. There is a big focus on employee satisfaction, which was great, and there is definitely a "team" culture. For the most part, the company runs like a well oiled machine.

Cons

The interview process is unreasonably selective, I mean applying, a group interview, a phone interview, then one in person. Come now. This is retail we're talking about. When I say way too corporate, I mean it. Every moment of your time is scheduled to the minute, and you're required to regularly spend anywhere from 15 min to an hour reading employee guides and handbooks (thank god it's paid), which frankly is ridiculous. You have to write your goals down everyday and report to your manager at the end of the shift to tell them if you made your goals or not. It is a very high pressure, strict environment. If retail is your full time career, maybe you'll like this, but it's a little intense for a part time job. Additionally, you are required to do either morning or evening truck (morning truck starts at 5 am and evening truck goes from 9:30-12:30 but often goes to 2 or 3 am) and let me tell you, it is hard work. Can't speak on morning trucks but evening trucks were grueling. You wear back braces and unload, slash, and stock thousands of boxes. Like everything else at the container store it runs like a well oiled machine, but if you're looking for something low maintenance with normal hours, it's probably not for you.

Pros

The Container Store has the most thorough training process of any company I've worked for. The environment was nice, and my coworkers and managers were all great. The employee discount is significant.

Cons

I applied because I was not getting the hours I was promised by my other part-time retail job. During the hiring process, they said I could work as many hours as I wanted, up to 29 hours per week. They did not mention until I was hired and asking for my hours that hours are dependent on how many customers you get to sign up for the rewards program. As a cashier, everyone I checked out who was not a part of the rewards program and did not want to be counted against me. Customers who are already a part of it don't factor in. I could check out 40 people in a shift, only have 5 who weren't part of the program, and only get 2 of them to sign up, and I would be penalized for that with my hours. If you work floor shifts and sign people up on the floor, it's able to boost your score since you don't interact with non-rewards members who don't want to join the system at all, but I was never offered floor shifts. They expected a 60-70% conversion rate, which is not realistic. Most people who want to be part of the program already are, and those who aren't typically aren't willing to even hear your 20-second pitch about it.
