Pros

Working around and meeting amazing people doing great work in the Twin Cities. Working in a beautiful, inspiring-looking space. General Managers that have hearts of gold and genuinely care about people.

Cons

Unless the founders change the model they use to structure employee time and compensation, there’s really no way to earn a living or fair wage here. There’s nothing psychologically safe about barely making ends meet while dedicating all the time and energy required to help keep the business succeeding, in the name of 'doing good' all while watching the company grow yet being told pay will never change from the minimum level it is at. The lack of transparency and disconnect between the founders/GMs/staff made me and several employees feel continuously uncomfortable and expendable (which, in my case, was ultimately completely true). In my experience, the founders do not value or respect their people anywhere close to the empowering way the brand portrays itself to operate and takes advantage of humans wanting to do good in the world through their work. I always thought it was strange to see former employees that helped build this “community” abruptly disappear with no reasons or explanations... after my negative experience working here too, I no longer wonder. The members have certainly noticed it as well and the super high employee turnover speaks for itself. There are many companies that exist with a mission to do good—that operate for-profit and ALSO manage to do good by their employees. It’s truly unfortunate The Coven hasn’t made the decision to be one of them, and if I had a friend considering a job here, I would strongly advise them against it.
