Pros

• Remote • Interesting cases • Some genuinely good people stuck in a difficult environment

Cons

• Leadership communication is reactive and often unprofessional • Employees are expected to anticipate needs without being informed • Work can be dismissed entirely after extensive effort • Little accountability at the top, high accountability everywhere else • Burnout is treated as a personal failure rather than a systemic issue • Clarity is treated as optional, but perfection is mandatory

Pros

My position was fully remote

Cons

The managing partner/CEO creates an unreasonable and unsustainable work environment. Although I was hired to improve billing operations, all the billing assistants were let go shortly after I started. This led to severe understaffing, with the entire billing department falling on me. As a result, I had to work frequently on evenings and weekends just to manage the overwhelming workload. Despite raising concerns early on about the feasibility of one person handling the firm's billing, management was dismissive and resisted adopting industry best practices. The CEO constantly criticized my performance without acknowledging the lack of adequate support or the challenges of working with two, and eventually three, different billing systems. Future opportunities to discuss concerns with the CEO were almost non-existent as our 1-on-1 meetings were frequently canceled and never rescheduled. Overall, I felt unheard, unsupported, and undervalued. The combination of poor work-life balance, a lack of communication, and disregard for my well-being ultimately led to my decision to leave.
