Rough employee culture and unclear leadership and expectations - Designer The Frontier Project Employee Review

Pros

Many very bright and talented coworkers. Plenty of room to challenge your self motivation and ingenuity. Salary, health insurance and profit sharing are competitive with local market.

Cons

Frontier boasts a very high turnover rate. I believe this is due to an abusive environment cultivated by the company's leaders. While I was there I witnessed many incidents of verbal abuse and public shaming from the top leadership. The most unacceptable detail was the poor handling of a legal harassment claim brought against one of the leadership amidst a number of other similar complaints concerning the leader's treatment of the female staff. In my opinion, the member of leadership was protected while the staff was encouraged to keep their heads down or leave the company. Additionally, expectations and processes are unclear for those executing the work, often pushing junior and associate level employees into taking on senior level workload and responsibility to meet client needs and company promises.

Pros

I love The Frontier Project portfolio of companies. It's a work environment where I am encouraged to challenge myself to be my best self. We are a -- practice what you preach -- environment so when we ask our clients to be agile, we ask each other to be agile. When we ask our clients to have courage to try new things, we ask each other to have courage to try new things. When we ask our clients to challenge their habits and rethink their purpose, we ask each other to challenge our habits and rethink our purpose. It's an incredible place where I use my brain and think harder and differently everyday. This place has literally made me smarter and I am forever grateful for that gift.

Cons

Our company encourages autonomy and is deliverable driven. In order to thrive here you have to be able to know how to drive yourself forward, self manage your time (meaning protect it too), and be insanely open to giving and receiving constant feedback. Though that may not sound like a con, but I think for many people it is. You can't hide here and fly under the radar. So if you don't have a lot of self confidence and stamina in the face of change this environment can be very hard to be in for an extended period time.
