Employee value & motivation - Finance Specialist The Nature Conservancy Employee Review

Pros

The organization values us, their employees, deeply. I feel secure, with a voice, human (I mean not a piece of machinery to obtain dividends) and surrounded by amazing individuals. I also believe that being able to be payed for doing something I love and that actually improves the world is highly motivating, empowering and makes me super proud. Furthermore I love employees commitment to trying their best, improving and looking for efficiency and alignment above their personal interests. The opportunities and volunteering (Coda) are incredible, I'm super excited about this.

Cons

There's a lack of structure, not awful but existent that makes onboarding quite hard, other than giving you a list of trainings which is amazing, I believe that there's a disconnection between that and your daily activities and planning. Also performance measurements seem very arbitrary.

Pros

Some incredibly kind, smart, and passionate employees. Above average pay for a non-profit (could be better), fulfilling mission, great benefits (healthcare, PTO, 8% 401k match)

Cons

The higher up you go in the org, the worse it gets. Executive leadership is abysmal and they completely eroded trust in their ability to lead. Most of the C-suite needs to be replaced with people with higher EQ. Marketing in particular has an extremely toxic corporate culture that’s become immensely worse in the past 3-5 years. Layoffs were never a common occurrence, but in the last couple years, they happen with no rhyme or reason and those exact roles that were eliminated are seemingly reposted just mere weeks after folks are pushed out. Beware of what team you’re joining. It’s a mixed bag. Some amazing teams with incredible leadership, and some not.
