Pros

Great mission. Work load too heavy for a life.

Cons

Benefits are bad compared to other NGOs of similar reputation, go elsewhere if you have a life. Workload too heavy with no work-life balance. 2 weeks vacation to start is way too low and not competitive. I have a family and a life but 2 weeks for several years is abysmal. I am already looking elsewhere which is unfortunate as it costs alot to hire new employees. WWF, PEW, etc. all have much better benefits and much better work/life balance.

Thank you for sharing your experiences working for TNC. I’m very sorry to hear that you haven’t felt supported in your work/life balance. As a decentralized organization with multiple business units across the globe, we recognize that the way people experience working at TNC will vary by business unit, geography, and work responsibilities. Our goal is to support the work/life balance and flexibility needs of employees in all of our locations as consistently as possible. With regards to benefits, we appreciate your feedback. We annually review the market data to ensure we have a competitive benefits package and make changes when needed to keep up with the market. As part of the package, we offer vacation which starts at two weeks the first year, then three weeks in your second year, moving to four weeks in year five. Other paid time off benefits include holidays, sick time and eight weeks of parental leave for paternity, maternity and adoption leave. Lastly, I wanted to take this opportunity to encourage you to reach out to your HR Business Partner if you are feeling dissatisfied with your role and want to talk to someone. TNC values it’s fantastic and talented employees, and The People Team is there to help you address your workplace concerns.

Pros

Some incredibly kind, smart, and passionate employees. Above average pay for a non-profit (could be better), fulfilling mission, great benefits (healthcare, PTO, 8% 401k match)

Cons

The higher up you go in the org, the worse it gets. Executive leadership is abysmal and they completely eroded trust in their ability to lead. Most of the C-suite needs to be replaced with people with higher EQ. Marketing in particular has an extremely toxic corporate culture that’s become immensely worse in the past 3-5 years. Layoffs were never a common occurrence, but in the last couple years, they happen with no rhyme or reason and those exact roles that were eliminated are seemingly reposted just mere weeks after folks are pushed out. Beware of what team you’re joining. It’s a mixed bag. Some amazing teams with incredible leadership, and some not.
