Low salaries, Poor progression structure & No benefits - SEO Manager The SEO Works Employee Review

Pros

Great people & healthy culture

Cons

The salaries are very low, way below what other similar companies are offering. The salary structure hasn't been updated in years, even though the SEO industry has grown exponentially in the past 2 years. Moreover, while the hourly rates charged to clients have increased, staff salaries have remained the same. The low wages in addition to the lack of any other financial benefits, such as a bonus or profit sharing, is causing some of the most talented staff to leave for other agencies that offer fair wages.

Thanks for your feedback, we appreciate it. We are a listening company and are undertaking an external salary benchmarking exercise to ensure our pay remains competitive in line with industry trends. We’ve also put a lot of work recently into our progression structure, developing a matrix which attempts to more clearly define the work skills, support skills, values, and soft skills required to progress. We conduct exit interviews with all leavers to better understand reasons and motivations for leaving, and ensure this feedback is used to help us continually improve as a business and employer. Thanks again for your feedback, and if you do want to chat further just reach out to me or James. Cheers Ben (MD)

Pros

- People within the PPC, SEO, DPR, and Web teams all priorities work and peer growth, making for a collaborative working environment. - Heads of departments seem open to discussions from employees at all levels about working capacity and overall structure of working life.

Cons

- Despite numerous promises about pay increase and promotion, these were continually not delivered, being delayed by poor budget management from the company heads. - Suggestions from all teams about how to improve the services we delivered, the company hierarchy, and changes to HR policies were always heard but never acted upon, leaving hope for change, but never any results. - The segregation between the sales team and the "working" side of the office made it difficult to resolve client issues, as team members who needed to be involved were never available for discussions. - The working wage was far lower than industry standard. - There was minimal safety measures in place to ensure proper behaviour was up kept from clients, and this was never made part of the "check in" process to keep employees safe and heard.
