Pros

- lots of opportunity to learn if you put the work in. - friendly staff culture

Cons

I was hired based off a very low key interview where 1 manager had coffee with me. I never had another dealing with that manager again except one Xmas he called to tell me about how bonuses would work. - I was on-boarded and immediately shipped to replace someone else in a position that I really didn’t have the skill set for initially but was able to teach myself on the fly and with some work at home. - manager (different than interviewing manager , let’s call manager B) who oversaw the project I was on was clearly doing everything he could to keep that ship afloat. My merges would sit for weeks and only after many attempts at nagging to get the merge reviewed, it would not be reviewed and pushed anyway. This would become apparent when the stars aligned and he actually read the code I was pushing that possibly built upon previously merged content would get called out in a merge. Sometimes months after being initially merged into the base. - No touch points or reviews. - No raises based on performance or anything. Only way you got a raise was by asking for one, or saying you were taking another job. My case, I joined TB for a culture change as my previous place was toxic and took a low offer with promises of opportunity and advancement. I passed probation and got a small raise. I never had another review after probation, and continued to work there for 2.5 more years. I was recruited elsewhere and gave my notice. During that time Manager B sent me off to Manager C a new manager I had never talked to before or met. C attempted to sell me on the culture they were trying to build and how they wanted to help grow their staff through training and other quality of life things (RRSP matching, etc.). At the end of the day they were only willing to match the offers and all training would need to be done in my own time and would be unpaid but they would cover course material. Keeping in mind I had worked there for 3 years and been the sole developer on a particular contract.

Pros

1. Ambitious, fast-moving environment The company has a strong “think big” mindset and encourages bold ideas and execution at pace. 2. Learning opportunities through breadth of work There is exposure to a wide range of projects, which can help build experience quickly, especially in a short period of time. 3. Team-level collaboration Within teams, there are often supportive individuals who are willing to collaborate and help move work forward. 4. Ownership in execution There is generally room to take initiative and lead aspects of work independently.

Cons

1. Lack of stability and clarity during employment My experience included extended periods where I was not actively utilized or given meaningful work for several months, with limited communication about expectations or next steps during that time. 2. Sudden and unclear layoff experience The layoff process felt abrupt and lacked clear communication around timing and planning, which made it difficult to transition smoothly. 3. Unprofessional offboarding behaviour After my departure, company representatives came to my home without prior notice to retrieve equipment. This was unexpected and felt inappropriate given there had been no clear coordination or structured handover process leading up to it. 4. Inconsistent communication and accountability Across both active employment and offboarding, communication around expectations, timing, and process felt inconsistent, which contributed to confusion and stress during transition periods.
