Pros

The staff are wonderful and super understanding and will work with you to grow as an instructor. They are understanding and work with your schedule if you are currently a full-time student or have another job, which was a huge plus. The staff is passionate about their mission to educate San Diego and it is truly a fun job when you enjoy working with kids and enjoy coding in general.

Cons

Even though all of the equipment is provided, transferring the equipment from one location to the next can be a little bit challenging but they even do their best to help. Only another con I can come up with is potentially encountering foreign programming errors or bugs and trying to keep the students engaged while solving the issue when office staff may not be physically present to assist. So getting familiar with the system may take a little time and patience.

Pros

It was a great experience to be able to work with other interns and one of the co-founders of ThoughtSTEM. The culture of the company is similar to that of a start-up. It provided a sense of accomplishment and connectivity that you rarely find anywhere else. The company really makes an effort to help with individual development as a software engineer.

Cons

You're given two days to get accustomed to the teachings and principles of the company and then you're rushed right into work. Although, it did give everybody a chance to take the initiative and learn outside of work hours, it is possible that more preparation could bring out the best in all the interns. The programming language is one that not many programmers are accustomed to, but it is easy to pick up after about a week.

Pros

- Positive company mission; inspiring children to learn programming is essential in the modern world, and from my experience ThoughtSTEM does a lot to promote this. - Staff members are incredibly friendly. There doesn't seem to be a sense of hierarchy between the staff and instructors; they will always be personable and open to talk. - Fellow instructors are generally nice and fun to work with. - Classes are aided by staff on phones, who help with computer issues or more complicated programming errors. - Programming lessons are offered at no cost, providing instructors work enough classes each week.

Cons

- Can be difficult to get a lot of hours early on. Instructors will be given one or two classes per week until they are able to teach confidently. - Compensation for driving is too low. Instructors are only paid for miles when we drive from the office to a school, and no other time. In theory, all miles driven while clocked in should be compensated.
