Pros

Regular employees are very helpful and are really nice. Great location. Pet friendly.

Cons

No processes, upper management has no leadership qualities, is not honest or transparent. Top management doesn't know how to inspire or communicate. You are told to figure things out when asking for leadership or direction. Do what I say, not what I do type of mentality from top management. Things change on a dime (your role, supervisor, company structure) and there is little or no explanation/communication to employees. Student and free software is used, so it's difficult to get professional software experience for general office suite. Owners run business on a paper clip budget and manage like a start up although they have been in business longer than 4 years. Employees are expected to buy their own essentials for their workstations, office supplies or any seasonal holiday decorations. Blurred lines and boundaries with supervisor/management expectations, job responsibilities and assignments, communication, or other areas of work. Top management only complains about what you are doing wrong and not what you are doing right.

Threshold Agency Response

Hi there - thank you for your post! We sure do love our pets! I’m glad you found that perk purrrrfect as well. Well, no one has brought a cat in - a snake and a chicken, yes, but not a feline. Hmm, wonder why? I am sorry you feel that the leadership qualities of upper management is lacking or that there isn’t transparency. Without insight as to what specifically you are referring to, I can’t comment. Of course, with any company, some things just can’t be shared with everyone. We try to be as open as possible and encourage feedback and questions from the team. Whether that’s in a group or private setting, we will always respond if we can or let you know when we can’t. I also understand how change can be difficult. I’ll get with our crew to see what we can do to better prepare folks for any organizational or procedural changes - thank you for that input. I am perplexed by the “student and free software,” comment. We invest monthly in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite for those employees that need access to them. We also pay for a full Google Suite offering that provides access to all of Google Drive - including their popular productivity tools. As you can imagine, with 30+ employees, that investment is considerable, but well worth it. In terms of running a tight budget - I think it’s prudent for companies to watch how they spend, but not to the detriment of the team. I appreciate the feedback and will see what we’ve changed over the years to ensure no one feels a “pinch.” I hope you were able to take advantage of our paid lynda.com service where you can access training on a plethora of different subjects. We initiated that a few years ago after an employee brought it up during one of our all-teams. Really glad we do that. In fact, that service is found in our Agency Guide that was shared with everyone a couple of years ago - after we finally finished pulling everything together. It’s amazing how much time that can take - but a big boost for standardization. I know we aren’t perfect and will never be, but we are always striving to do what’s best for everyone. I hope you have some time to visit with me, I’d love to brainstorm ideas and see what we can do to address some of the items you mention. It’s very important to me that everyone is heard and I’d like to take you up on your advice. Let’s work together to identify some areas that need attention and come up with a great solution for everyone. My door is always open - and it will remain confidential. Thank you for your input and I hope we can come up with some solutions together.

Pros

The team culture is excellent, the managers aren't overbearing, and a remote work setting is always a plus.

Cons

None that I can think of, honestly. The pace is fast sometimes but that comes with territory. Everyone makes a collective effort to get the job done.

Pros

Creative camaraderie: Working on the creative team was a highlight. My co-workers were genuinely passionate, hardworking, and always ready to lend a hand. I formed great relationships with both my teammates and clients, and have made lifelong friendships from working at Threshold. Variety in projects: Despite most work revolving around real estate, the variety of campaigns and deliverables kept things interesting and challenging. I had creative freedom in most projects and enjoyed collaborating with my team! Opportunity to make a mark: I had the chance to rebrand the agency, which was a significant professional and challenging milestone for me.

Cons

No benefits for Canadians: As a Canadian employee, I didn’t receive any health insurance or similar benefits to the US employees. High turnover & frequent restructuring: There was a consistent sense of uncertainty among employees. I experienced this firsthand when I was unexpectedly laid off in September due to a "department restructuring". I worked at Threshold for nearly three years, during which there were multiple departmental changes and reorganizations. A lot of people came and went, indicating a lack of long-term stability and growth. When I started there were around 40 employees, (I was one of 5 designers who eventually became the only designer), and when I was laid off in September there were less than 20 total employees. Outdated tools & processes: Some workflows and design software felt behind the times, making it harder to stay efficient and competitive in the current industry standards.
