Pros
Despite the company being around for so long and multiple reinventions of itself, this current iteration feels somewhat like a start-up environment. It continues to embark on incremental changes that began during the past few years that I think will set it up for continued success in the future. There have been personnel changes throughout the organization in recent times, leading to capable and experienced hires in key rank and file as well as management positions. As with any other business today, efficiency, automation, the ability to revisit the status quo, and checking your egos are crucial to competing and thriving. I see employees from all departments working through these areas and more, which makes for a collaborative working environment. Employees are open minded, take ownership, and are ready to help each other. Management is accessible, receptive to ideas, and recognizes the work done by their employees. The small size of the company helps in this respect and keeps there from being too many layers. The size also affords opportunities to wear multiple hats and leave your mark as new processes and best practices are crafted and implemented.
Cons
As with all small sized companies, opportunities to wear multiple hats comes at the price of a workforce that is spread thin at times. This has led to reliance on employees who are subject matter experts, even if their performance is not up to standards. With the recent changes in personnel, this has been mostly addressed.
