It is true that this is an easy job. We believe hosting shows should be both fun and easy for the right type of person. Our hiring process is set up to find these one-of-a-kind personalities, and we have an awesome team full of people who live up to that standard.
The company pays for all supplies and equipment, aside from either a laptop or a tablet. This means trivia answer sheets, Music Bingo rounds, karaoke software, speakers, cords, microphones, lights, tablecloths, mixers, stands, monitors, etc. All of this is paid for and supplied by the company and held by the host during their employment.
Top Shelf would never slander an employee publicly. That’s not in line with the character of the people who run the company. Nearly everyone who has ever worked for us could attest to this. Also, how could anyone slander an employee to future employers when no one knows who those employers will be?
If anyone ever needs to take time off, we have a standard system in which they request time off through the scheduling app a week or more in advance. It is always approved. This happens every day without issue.
The only time there is a problem is when someone calls out last minute for a shift. Not showing up or canceling day-of is considered a resignation. We have clients who expect us to be 100% reliable, and they have venues full of customers expecting us to show up to host.
Lastly, it is true that employees are expected to show up with enough time to start the show at the scheduled time. For this, we pay very well per hour, three and a half times minimum wage.
