Where do I start…The phrases, “You’re being volun-told to do something” or “It’s the Toyota way” is said to me often. The mentality that this type of behavior is remotely normal is just part of being on a toxic team and is disheartening. They try to manage the office associates as if we’re on the manufacturing floor which is ever failing… There is NO DIVERSITY. All the pictures of the executives on the walls depict old white men. Unfortunately, that’s what the executes in the office resemble. They don’t seem to be changing this anytime soon. They send out “anonymous” surveys then managers reach out to their teams to see how they answered the questions. There is no one to tell because HR and the mangers are all friends. There are VERY few TRUE leaders in this company. Most are only managers who don’t know the difference. They “claim” to value the 360 Leader Program and the Toyota core values. However, most fall below the bar of displaying any of the characteristics noted in the book or the core values. They don’t build real relationships with their teams, nothing is ever good enough for them, they don’t trust anyone and it’s evident because they take your projects and redo them. This is the kicker; they can’t make a decision but expect people on their team to be able to read their mind. They don’t know how to communicate with another human being to save their lives. Empathy, human decency, and kindness are non existent. They don’t care about their employees and it’s evident in the way they treat us. I can go on and on but I’m going to stop right here. The really sad part is that most people feel this way but are too afraid to admit it. I’ve only met 2 true leaders in this company and one retired in December.
