Pros

Trailnet is a storied advocacy organization working toward a worthwhile vision for the St. Louis region. As non-profit work goes, this is some of the most fruitful I know of -- with significant, tangible results and positive relationships with people across the region who are getting stuff done. The work was flexible and easy. My co-workers were pleasant. It was a worthwhile early-career stop, where I was encouraged to try my hand at a variety of things.

Cons

Non-profit work is non-profit work. The pay and benefits are poor. There aren't enough hands for the amount of work. The board of directors' and donors' voices are highly valued by management, sometimes at the expense of good work. Expect very little constructive oversight and even less mentorship. Growth is limited, as is long-term fulfillment. As such, there is a high turnover rate and little consistency.

Pros

Fantastic organization that advocates for bicyclists and pedestrians in the St. Louis area. Diverse staff of talented people dedicated to the mission of getting more people moving. There is a lot of work being done at Trailnet with an array of great partnerships and almost daily events and opportunities

Cons

The day-to-day operations at Trailnet can be consuming. It is difficult to work on 'bigger picture' items like revamping the website when there are tasks that need daily attention.
