Pros
1.) Decent 401k % match. 2.) Potentially get a company car after 4-5 years of service. 3.) You will move around the country (pro and con) 4.) You will take part in massive projects. 5.) You will be exposed to many aspects of construction. 6.) Excellent upper management with Chris and Mike Traylor. - They are amazing people with a well managed HQs and clear direction for the company.
Cons
1.) You will work outside in extreme heat, extreme cold and everything in between. 9 hours + per day while in the field. 2.) You will not be given any safety gear besides a hardhat, vest, gloves, and glasses. Need a jacket, warm gloves, warm boots, etc that's all on you. 3.) You will work +/-70 hours a week if your project is behind schedule. 4.) You will often be working on Saturdays (maybe Sundays). 5.) You will not be compensated for overtime, thus your pay rate is substantially low. 6.) Company culture varies between bosses. 7.) You will be overlooked if you do not join the "clique". 8.) You will not get treated equally. 9.) There are no opportunities to move up the ladder. 10.) Salaries are nowhere near equal across the board. 11.) Your boss has the ability to either help you progress or hinder your growth. The following paragraph is about field work only: Field engineers are churned and burned for a reason. The culture at Traylor Brothers is cutthroat. Cliques are rampant. The interoffice relationships ensure any talented young engineer will remain stagnate. It's a shame too, because Chris and Mike Traylor actually run the main offices extremely well.
