Pros

Beautiful Island, made some friends, low rent, free boat travel between islands.

Cons

Extremely rude and condescending management. Very little experience, massive mood swings, very unpleasant working environment. Lots of whispering together by the bar. The restaurant is advertised as “2 rosette”. Nothing is fresh, almost everything comes from the freezer or from a box. The “seafood platter” is made up of mostly farmed river fish. The beef “ragu” is made with stock powders and liquid smoke. I spent my days opening packets and watching the clock. The whole island has a cult like feeling, seasonal staff are looked down on or totally ignored by the permanent staff. Only single mattresses on the island. If you come with your partner prepare to have back ache from the two single mattresses pushed together. Totally unambitious culture where any suggestion of improvement is met with resistance.

Pros

You live on a beautiful island, you get a (small) discount there, somewhat social, job is relatively easy

Cons

Management is pathetic, people are promoted due to their time on Tresco rather than experience. Blatant favouritism and cliques disrupt the paradise. There is no support or appreciation for staff. They host staff ‘evenings’ or events when most hospitality are working. The most unprofessional work environment I have ever been a part of. It has the potential to be a fantastic opportunity but I have come out with hardly any savings and completely worn down by the treatment here. They constantly insist the island is about to experience a rush but it never arrives. The staff scramble for jobs and then are belittled for the work they do. Go work abroad instead. What a toxic place. I will never return.
