Pros

Working at Trib Total Media is more than just a job—it’s a mission. I love being part of a company that is deeply committed to delivering trusted news, engaging content, and innovative marketing solutions that make a real impact in our communities. What makes it even more rewarding is knowing that the products we offer truly work for businesses. I’ve seen firsthand how our solutions help business owners grow, reach new customers, and achieve their goals. Every day, I get to work alongside passionate professionals who care about storytelling, local journalism, and driving real results. The energy, creativity, and purpose-driven culture at TTM make it an incredible place to build a career. I’m proud to be part of a team that truly makes a difference.

Cons

Working at Trib Total Media is incredibly rewarding, but like any industry, it comes with challenges. The newspaper business is tough—constantly evolving with changing consumer habits, digital disruption, and economic pressures. Staying ahead requires adaptability, creativity, and a willingness to embrace new strategies. One unique aspect of TTM is that we don’t just rely on traditional revenue streams; we own and invest in businesses outside of our core mission to help fund local journalism. While this diversification is a smart strategy, it also means navigating multiple industries and balancing priorities. Despite these challenges, I love being part of a company that remains committed to innovation and community impact. The work isn’t always easy, but it’s meaningful, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Pros

-Reporters and lower editors are genuinely nice people -The Trib's hyperlocal news coverage and online presence are both strong

Cons

-Top editors are unprofessional and lack clear vision for the paper -Employees receive minimal vacation / sick days... You start with 10 days (vacation + sick) that don't go into effect until 3 months into your employment. No exceptions for severe illness -Hours are chaotic (Frequent weekend and late night shifts) -One of the offices is in a basement with no windows -Pay is poor -Quota is ridiculous and places unnecessary stress on employers -Reporters who aren't favored by top editors are moved around frequently -Top editors do not invest in younger reporters, making it difficult to grow as a journalist or writer -Favoritism is shown toward the Pittsburgh / Tarentum reporters... and more resources are poured into these offices... despite the fact that the paper originated in Greensburg and the highest readership remains in Westmoreland County -Business model is dependent on a large sum of money willed by the former owner. That money won't last forever! -Current business model also requires hyperlocal coverage of specific townships/boroughs. The Trib is trying to do this and compete with the Post-Gazette in broader, regional coverage — all with a much smaller staff. The paper is spread much too thin, and the content and workers suffer as a result
