Pros
We're building a company from the ground up, which is challenging, exciting, and extremely rewarding. The founders are genuinely good people with a tremendous amount of experience. They've been through the ups and downs of both startups and huge corporations, and are trying to make Trove the best of both worlds. There is a lot of opportunity to grow your career. In many companies, the only path to promotion is management; Trove weighs management and technological contribution equally. That means you can be promoted without having to take on directs. In engineering, managers are also developers. You won't have a non-technical person as your boss. There is an ongoing effort to delineate engineering levels so you know exactly what you need to do to reach the next level. The vacation policy is chill. The pay is good, comparable to any large corporation in the area. The stock options were attractive at the time I was hired (I'm not sure how they are now). The work-life balance is really good. Yes, this is a startup, but it's not a sweatshop.
Cons
- Fast pace might not be for everyone. - There is a lack of diversity, but to be fair, leadership has recently made this a priority. - 401k and other benefits are lacking compared to larger companies.
