Pros
You will gain a lot of experience, if you (allow) yourself too. I felt a wave of emotion while working at Tulane, Death, Illness, Complaints, Appreciation,Screaming and Hollering, Drunk and Deranged. We run a non up to code 72 hour inpatient psychiatric unit in the back of the ER. Sad some patients were there on a Corners order & PEC 72 hours + inpatient order and couldn't even take a shower. Our downtown location is old run down, with beat-up equipment. We made due, overall I can say I loved my job. I did however feel like for the job I was doing Tulane could have done better with my pay. They had somewhat great benefits PTO paid vacation and vision dental and health. Some nurses where lazy, some of them where sweethearts.. I loved and adored working with some of them, some of them I stayed away from. If you join the" click" you will never want to leave Tulane, if your not a "click" type you will feel like a outcast sometimes. Tulane does not have a very high turn over rate, some people have been there for 11-22 years, so I can say if your likable you will do well. Just don't allow yourself to become used, I'm sure if you work at Tulane you will feel that way at some point.
Cons
Drunk Irate patients on a nightly basis, Overflow of drunken overdosed patients during Carnival season. Terrible housekeepers, Rooms rarely mopped out after discharges, Nasty soiled broken room curtains . OLD BEAT UP equipment, non working Dinamapps, for any position, run down broken non working equipment makes it harder to do our jobs.
