Pros

Good work life balance. I felt respected and like TxDOT wanted to see me grow. The right amount of stress and responsibility without having to live to work.

Cons

No complaints. When I was leaving they were designing a new HQ. I loved the Riverside location because it was easy to access of bike or bus, close to good food options, and right by the river for lunchtime walks.

Pros

Good health insurance, vacation and sick leave! No mandatory overtime

Cons

Hired remote before Covid and this agency ended all telework even though other state agencies kept it! Doing the work of 3 people but pay for 1 …building outdated (except for HQ in Austin), lack of modern software but PeopleSoft gets the job done, High mandatory pension deductions right at 9.5% big hit to paycheck! Getting paid once a month big adjustment. Ending telework really limits their talent pool around the state of Texas now must live in Austin if you want access to the majority of good jobs.
