Opportunities if you are in the "inner circle" - Engineering Manager Tyco Employee Review

Pros

Talented people to work with, Good work/life balance, Interesting work in an area that is evolving and a lot of disruption from startups.

Cons

A lot of talk about innovation and quoting from books but that's where it ends. If you are in the "inner circle" there are opportunities in the company. If you aren't in the "inner circle" your voice will not be heard. For a $10B startup there's still a very heavy corporate hierarchy. With the merger with Johnson Controls coming there is a lot of uncertainty. The tagline is "business as usual" but with the merger coming there's a lot of "wait and see" as far as action.

Pros

SimplexGrinnell is a great company....at some branches. Great benefits. In most situations, guys work beyond what's normal, as a team, to achieve a common goal. Gas card, and take trucks home. constantly on the move.

Cons

The quality of inspectors are getting worse. The company thinks supplementing bodies for quality is a good idea. Have of these boneheads at this branch, can't identify what a deficiency is. Even the ones who are supposedly NICET qualified. The office is completely without structure, the service guys completely gaff off NFPA standards. Its really sad. I wont give SimplexGrinnell as a whole a bad name, as I've worked at several branches. The company is supposed to be about fire protection services. Instead, they are only focused on closing tasks to collect the money tied to them. whether the job is correct or not. Management should be ashamed at the level of "expertise" they hire. That's from the top down. I'm sure Bob Chauvin would not approve. The moral is awful as well. HR, what's that? The pay is laughable when you consider all the paperwork, logistics, sales and lead work they ask you to perform. Schedulers need training so more time is spent working, and less time is spent behind the windshield.
