Pros

Opportunities to be client facing, and to work on a broad range of projects of varying scales. Individual team members are supportive and lovely, and learning from those with a wealth of experience is a positive. Salary is competitive and fair.

Cons

Too much focus on money and financial performance rather than the quality of the work, with a lack of support for senior members of the team who are overworked and stressed. Lack of training and investment in staff, and volunteer days hardly happen because of the lack of time and high workloads. The message and impression given out through social media to prospective clients and employees is very different to the experience of actually working there. There are too many gimmicks and flashy marketing campaigns rather than a focus on the quality of the work and investment in staff. If your face doesn't fit with the so called 'values' portrayed to the outside world then you won't last. The chosen few who do align with the values do well and are rewarded by senior management, but for others hard work and commitment is overlooked and pressure to perform is high. Management are far too focussed on themselves and the image of the company than actually focussing on what's going on with their staff, and as a result staff turnover is high. Promotions occur too quickly and unnecessarily, resulting in senior members of the team who are put into roles that they don't fit with, are overworked and stressed, and unable to train junior members of the team sufficiently.

Pros

We supposedly get Fridays off to search for better jobs.

Cons

Bullying culture from director level, we’re expected to achieve aggressive profit margins on projects despite lack of internal resource and poor availability of external sub contractors. Company resourcing team are overworked and can’t support us properly despite their best efforts, they’re the most poorly managed out of all of us from what I can tell. Many of my colleagues have been signed off with stress and I know of at least 4 others who are likely to join them in the next month, me also. Management is full of people who spend all day on calls but actually do nothing but cause problems for others. Business loves to preach values but this is by far the most unethical consultancy that I have ever worked for based on the treatment of my colleagues. Presenteeism and attending pointless meetings are valued more than actual quality output for clients and they will continually hire young employees who are less secure of themselves in order to convince them that this toxicity is normal and expected in the workplace, it isn’t. If you’re looking to join my advice and that of my therapist is don’t, B Corp needs to investigate.
