Pros

Installation grant and resettlement grant are generous

Cons

Cost of Living i.e Post adjustment complementing the basic salary varies a lot from country to country with methodology to be questioned, too high in some locations or too low compared to COL. Although staff are contributing to the study to establish the PA, there are huge discrepancies as it is approved and validated and then calculated at NY UN level... and as member states are willing to decrease all benefits for UN Staff, it is not improving to the contrary.

Pros

Good benefits, you really do help people

Cons

Human Resources takes a highly specialized approach to talent management. In that you cannot really change functions easily in UNHCR. You have to hyper-specialize in one area. So if you are a protection staff, you tend to burn out from trauma without an internal mechanism to alleviate the burnout. The higher you go in UNHCR, the crazier you become.
