Pros
Employees receive excellent benefits and the pay is very good when compared to other data entry jobs. Management works hard to keep the work environment pleasant and casual, and the building and facilities are kept up really well. People are very polite and respectful, including management. The job is very easy and employees always know what to expect. Performance requirements are made very clear and people are given ample opportunity to meet the established goals. Breaks are required and add up to 40 minutes a day, plus 30 minutes for lunch. Management works hard to keep up employee morale. The contract gives full time employees a tremendous amount of job security.
Cons
The job can be very boring. Actually, boring is probably an understatement. You do the exact same thing every single day. There isn't much opportunity for advancement. Not everyone considers it a con, but there is no talking allowed on the workroom floor outside of established talking zones, but people almost never get to sit in them and when you do, if you aren't one of the people talking, it can be very annoying. I've gone multiple days in a row without talking to a single other person at work. Sometimes employees are required to work up to 12 hours, especially in December. Overall, employees have a sense of entitlement that is undeserved, but fostered by the culture and by the APWU contract. The complaining gets really old and is almost always ridiculous.
