Pros

Accessible by public transpiration. Pension plan is good.

Cons

There were glimpses of hope so I tried to make it work for many years, but in the end I decided to take a pay-cut just so I could get out of there. Experiences may differ by department, but the department where I worked, as well as other departments with which I interacted are mired in toxicity. There are factions of untouchables. These individuals are not required to earn their paycheck nor are accountable for their actions. Instances when I communicated to my superiors that I found e-mails from such individuals unprofessional or just plain offensive, among the responses I got were: “..well, it is not news that so and so is not good with her social skills..”, “..learn to not let it make you miserable. If you can’t, be miserable in silence.”. Naiveté is key. Knowing suggests responsibility, and that cannot be. Many staffers prefer to do things wrong rather than educate themselves—especially if doing things incorrectly allows them to generate paperwork that suggests they are going the right thing; paperwork is key. High ranking individuals will usurp a lower echelon’s time with nonsense just so they can generate paperwork that suggest they are doing a bang-up job. These individuals can be easily spotted—simply ask a random sampling when they are eligible for retirement; they will give you an exact date.
