Pros

• Genuine vision for providing access to rural services • Organised hierarchy and processes with allocated team leader, admin manager and buddy system • You can accept or reject referrals sent to you • Effort put into building a positive online community with forums to communicate with team • Supervisors are knowledgeable and supportive - Umbo even pays you for supervision time once per month for 1 hour • Bill reports as you go • Tech system was well set up • Paid for any admin related to Umbo • Well being and anonymous surveys for team culture • Managers make an effort to get to know you and communicate regularly with you, also very efficient • Way you conduct therapy is not micromanaged, there are also good resources available on the drive for telehealth • Can choose scope and pace/frequency of therapy with clients • Payment is based on service award - quite generous

Cons

• Minimum hours, not as flexible as other contracting jobs • KPIS were difficult to achieve at times 5.5 hours per day with pressure to work an extra afternoon and into early evening times - difficult to negotiate with team leaders around this, emphasis on billables with metre being discussed at every meeting • 15 minute billing blocks- makes it hard to bill small amounts • Talk from team leaders about upper management being workaholics - you get the sense there's some pressure being placed on them • Occasional system glitches/bugs and booking errors • Can be difficult to achieve patient goals through telehealth (general comment - not related to Umbo) • Can be expected to respond to messages on days off • Client loads can fluctuate and difficult to sustain therapy pace which affects billables • No PD budget but some internal PD offered, recommended and supervision • Neuroaffirming framework can limit types of interventions you can offer if experienced in certain skill areas • Pay can fluctuate with cancellations
