Pros

Little to none. Maby pay if you are in another state than CA.

Cons

As other reviews state, workers at this company get little to no respect. I came from the military were discipline, respect and accountability were very high. There is none of that here. Everyday I see Facilities and vehicles that are tattered, littered, undertooled, ill-equipped and broken. Employee morale at an all-time low and getting worse by the day. No one cares about doing their job right instead just passing it on to the next person to make it become their problem. Locomotives and company vehicles run to death and are not maintained until they become a safety issue to the public and their own personal. To the eyes of management you are not a human, but a programmed robot that should not be making mistakes or having accidents. Make a mistake or have a accident and you are treated like you intentionally caused it even though it's only human to make mistakes from time to time. Safety first banners rain across company grounds however safety first here actually means better work safe to save us band aid money and your fired if you don't follow our complex and overly complicated safety rules that are impossible for a human to comply 100% with. The company doesn't care about how much their rules and operations stress you out or the anxiety that they create. they just care about how much profit they can squeeze out of you and where they can put the blame for their mistakes. Unions are useless because we can't even go on strike. Hardest part of the job is showing up knowing that I constantly have to deal with this stuff here. Best part about the job is going home. This industry use to be beautiful and vibrant, I know why it went downhill. You might think the money looks good, that's also what the CEO and stockholders thought, got greedy about it too. They made the industry end up like this. Stop looking for a job here because of the money and find something you can have a passion for.

Pros

Good benefits Work about every other day Pay has potential to be good

Cons

New hires do 100% of the work for 80% of the pay and won’t get fully compensated for the first 4 years. They are also expected to know every transportation job on site rather than focusing on one area like guys who have been here longer so 20% less pay but required to know more, do more, have to wear orange hats for a full year allowing management to easily identify them on camera or in person so they can watch them more closely hoping to catch them breaking a rule. So less pay but a more stressful work place requiring you to know more and get singled out hoping to catch them in a mistake. There is absolutely zero work life balance. Coming from a place where I had 20 plus years and able to hold a decent amount of PTO to getting a single day of paid vacation the first year and trying to balance a family life while also trying to provide for them is impossible. You sacrifice seeing your children grow up, play sports, go on vacations with them so you can provide for them. By the time you have enough years in to take a vacation with them they are grown and you missed the most important years of their lives. I know this as a child of a railroader and now as a parent who’s children barely get to see him.
