Pros
It was a solid place to work, offering a high degree of independence in managing the building. The role provided extensive experience in both building operations and team leadership, as nearly all matters related to the facility flowed through you. This level of responsibility and accountability greatly contributed to developing stronger resilience and a more proactive, solution-oriented approach.
Cons
Unite Students operated five buildings across the city, and you were part of a larger team of approximately 40 people, including the night security staff, the maintenance team, the housekeeping team, and the wider student experience team. The primary drawback, however, was the lack of decisive leadership. Management was often unwilling or unable to address behavioural issues, which ultimately contributed to a toxic working environment.
