Pros

The majority of employees are very friendly and great group of people to work with.

Cons

Unsworth Sugden is far from the 'dynamic' agency they advertise to be: * Staff are expected to sit in silence and talking is frowned upon. Hardly the creative environment needed for this type of work. * Payment is by cheque on the last working day of the month, new employees aren't advised of this until they start meaning most struggle to rearrange direct debits and mortgage payments. * Employees are rarely given contracts. Those who are aren't chased for them to be signed. Despite this staff are expected to abide by ridiculously long notice periods for their level of seniority. * There's a lack of career progression. Any promotions are reactive to people handing their notice in, not to actually reward staff for hard work. * There are no additional benefits to basic salary. * Salaries are not consistent among staff, nor proportionate to workload, Wherever they can get away with paying a low salary, for example by hiring an apprentice, they will. * Preferential treatment is given to certain members of staff, who have an obviously lower workload, despite being more senior. * Management insist on being copied into every email staff sent - there's no trust in staff. * Management can often be unprofessional, for example by gossiping and speaking badly of staff to clients * No HR department and no one to speak to if you do have a problem. Management don't like to hear ideas or constructive criticism on how to make working life better for staff. A suggestion box was shot down by bosses. No exit interviews. * Extremely outdated IT equipment. Staff could be much more efficient with better equipment. * A set lunchtime means staff who attend client meetings regularly miss lunch and/or work over the contracted hours. Time is not allowed to be taken back in lieu. Staff are told it's 'part of the job'. * No kitchen or cooking facilities provided. Water is only available in the building's communal bathrooms. * No parking. A limited number of spaces are available T the building and given to the most highly paid staff. * All of the above result in an extremely high turnover of staff that is now losing the company clients.

The business is also highly adaptable to change, which keeps the work fresh and forward‑looking. There are plenty of opportunities for progression, especially with such a young, enthusiastic and ambitious team coming through. Pros

Good variety of client work keeps things interesting and there's genuine opportunity to develop your skills across SEO, PPC and digital strategy. The team is knowledgeable and collaborative, and there's a lot of trust given to get on with the job without being micromanaged. What stands out most is that leadership genuinely cares about you as a person they are understanding and supportive, which isn't something you find everywhere in agency life.

Cons

Like most agencies, workload can spike and you're sometimes pulled across multiple accounts at once, but it's not unusual for the industry.
