Pros

The people are amazing for the most part. The 4 day week is great in theory. Pay and benefits are generally good. Started out as a great place to work.

Cons

Company is going downhill fast and scraping by on a depleting Series A. The CEO is a great guy but doesn't seem to know how to keep the company above water. He's very careful about what he says to employees to keep them from panicking. He will constantly stress how he thinks they have "the right team" to finally turn the tide before laying people off the next week. Most recent round of layoffs included the entire Marketing, Customer Success, and SDR teams in July. More were recently let go. Your job isn't even safe if you're on maternity leave. Yeah, they let go of a senior leader on maternity leave! The 4 day work week is good in theory, but you're often so busy trying to save your job that you end up working Fridays anyway. The CEO also stresses that you don't actually have Fridays off if there is work to do, which is a lot of the time. Not sure that benefit will last. The product had great potential but has fallen behind the competition. More and more competitors are entering the market and outpacing Uplevel. I'd be surprised if the company is still around in a year or two. But if you're just looking for a short period of good pay and a few Fridays off, give them a shot. Maybe they'll turn things around. They have a good team of people but not sure that’s enough.

Pros

The only pro was the 4-day work week.

Cons

First of all, the company is just a sinking ship as they can’t even uphold values like psychological safety or efficiency despite how they promote themselves in sales calls. The decisions made by leadership are basically nonsense. They constantly fire a bunch of people just to hire new ones in the best-case scenario. It doesn’t matter whether you are a top performer—if they need money, they can just fire you in one day without any severance package. From the outside, they have an amazing CEO (who constantly says that startups are not ideal places for career growth and promotions), and an amazing culture (until their investors tell them they need cost-cutting). They proudly advertise “People First” as their core value on their website. The reality is, the CEO just executes whatever the investors dictate, while the head of product practically manages the entire company. They even promoted a person as CTO who is toxic himself and can’t even push back against a single decision. The CTO cares only about his fancy title, which he’ll use to boost his TC in his next job opportunity.
