Pros

The intern review posted on March 31st is a fake review posted by management and so is the review from Jun 2023. Everything since then has been negative and please listen to the most recent reviews as Brian Coughlan is doing his best job at destroying this company from the inside.

Cons

Brian Coughlan came back into control of his company mid 2024 and 12 people have left since his return. That should say enough but I will explain why below. He has taken away flexibility, micromanages you and keeps track of when you enter and leave the office. He has zero idea what people are doing during the day but loses his mind if you leave 15 minutes early. He did a review of the benefits after losing 9 people to other companies and actually made the 401k, days off and other benefits WORSE while convincing himself that he was making the right decision. People leave because of flexibility, so he decides to make sure everyone is on a set schedule and marking the times they enter and leave the office. It is quite comical at his lack of common sense and he decisions are usually the complete opposite of what any right minded person would do when losing more than half their work force. I could literally type out seven more pages straight on terrible of a boss and human this clown is but will touch on the worst few below. He is creepy towards young women and only interviews ladies fresh out of school. He has admitted that he does not even read end of year reviews after forcing employees to generate pages and pages for these reviews. He already has a number in mind for your raise and doesn't even take the time to read them. He doesn't negotiate and would lose his entire work force over 2,500 dollars because of his pride, greed and inability to see that the company is not doing enough to keep up with other companies. On multiple occasions he has not given people the raises they wanted and then once they put their two weeks in he offers them the money, further confirming he could've paid you but is going to low ball everyone until he dies. Please avoid this place unless you need a stepping stone career then it is the perfect place to come and leave within 24 months. Your better off driving Uber or Lyft than working for this jack wagon and dealing with this. Please read reviews that have been posted since June of 2023. The employees you work with are cool and younger and are the only reason I didn't leave months ago. Literally every single employee hates brian together so its kind of a silver lining to the place because you can all relate to that together and is the main topic of conversation during the day about how trash of a boss he is and "what did he do this time."

Absolute **** show of a business. The company is built on utility bill auditing, something most customers could do themselves with little effort. The leadership is where the real problems begin. Brian Coughlan, the CEO, is condescending, dismissive, and inappropriate in his behavior. He makes offhand comments that have no place in a professional environment and has created a culture where success is neither supported nor celebrated. His leadership style is the definition of “my way or the highway,” and he treats performance reviews like a formality, he doesn’t read employee self-evaluations and makes it clear that feedback is a one way street. When Brian came back as CEO, half the office left, including four managers. That should tell you everything. The turnover is staggering, morale is constantly low, and there's a toxic mix of apathy and resentment that makes the work environment unbearable over time. A few genuinely good coworkers kept things bearable, but even they were frustrated and burned out. Promotion? Good luck. There’s no clear path, no development plan, and no transparency. The performance review process is archaic, subjective, and stacked against employees. The whole thing feels designed to demoralize rather than encourage growth. The company is coasting on a couple of big accounts and luck. The sales team has little grasp of what the company actually does or how to communicate value to clients. It's a clown show at times. TL;DR - UMS is a company stuck in the past, led by someone unfit to inspire or manage talent, with a culture that actively drives good people away. If you’re considering working here, don’t. If you're a client, know that you’re likely overpaying for something you could do yourself.
