Pros

The interactions with the animals and discount on your pets care are the only perks to this job. I love most of my coworkers but this positive feature is in spite of the horrific conditions given to us by VCA.

Cons

1. No room for growth due to awful pay-company hires employees in at completely unreasonable rates and they cannot move ahead or transfer to a different hospital because rate would be even lower. Management knows that there is an issue with employees being compensated so little but chooses to hire and keep employees uninformed on this topic until they feel stuck. 2. Short staffed until the end-Because company pays so little and employees are so underappreciated, we NEVER have enough staff. 3. Management doe NOT care-When an employee voices concerns about ongoing issues that multiple employees have addresses, upper management says they have no idea that these issues are present and to continue working hard and maybe we will be rewarded for this (however, see first topic). 4. Corporate dribble-Instead of addressing issues that most employees are very concerned with: pay, staffing, room for growth, the lovely corporate workers (who no one has any idea what they actually do) push that "we are the experience" and we need to power through the difficult times to make it a pleasant environment for clients and employees. In this wonderful meeting, we also were informed the company made several large donations to charities (which is great) but you should probably make sure that the employees who are taking care of people's beloved animal lives are being payed enough to compensate for the ridiculous circumstances of being yelled at, cussed out, under-payed, and constantly injured on the job.

Pros

Small animal, exotics, free care to wildlife, opportunities to work with zoo animals. Internal promotions to change all management has made the work environment very positive. Boarding facilities. Opportunity for certifying for internal crematory.

Cons

Pay rate less than expected for experience level. Corporate in California has increased prices every year that is causing all of my friends and family to change vets. With our rural area and low average income, pets are getting euthanized instead of having testing and treatment. Staff should have more discounts for employee pets.

Pros

This company offers many opportunities for doctors and techs to grow in their careers. They provide tons of support and they've been making HUGE changes to veterinary medicine on a whole. I have never known another company to offer so many benefits and perks for staff (especially techs), and they're even making lots of effort to invest in the veterinary receptionists-the front line associates of the hospital. They're also making great strides to acknowledge some of the feedback we've had for many years. They're savvy and smart, making business decisions that build on a company that will be around a long time (and has.)

Cons

There have been times where transparency and communication are lacking, and sometimes to the point where hospital-level employees feel left out or unheard. Some bigger topics like onboarding and navigating what support comes from where could be more clear. It feels like they've been fusing on new concepts/policies/features to the company, making it feel like a clunky machine rather than building something new and streamlined. Maybe it's in the works, but how do we know down here?
