Pros
Truly passionate people. They care about their role in animal healthcare and they will always recommend what’s best for the animal and try to work with the owners wallet. Most the employees have similar personalities, goofy and optimistic. Fun environment.
Cons
They do not pay well at all. I started with 3 years experience at 10.00. After 2 years I went up 75 cents. And every position is the same. If you look at their competitors, they start at $3-5 MORE than VCA will, regardless of previous experience. The management team will tell you “we are about the passion, not the pay” which is wonderful. You have to be passionate about your career to be great at it. But my bank does not accept monthly deposits of “passion”. This is not just at my local clinic, this is an international company that charges quite a lot to their clients. They REALLY can afford a better salary for their employees. They told me there would be “room to grow” within the company. This was a lie. I took on more and more work, but never “grew” anywhere. They want “yes-men”. I was told on multiple occasions I need to me more of a “yes-man”. Following directions without questions and picking up any extra work I can. To a point that is exactly what you should do. But I am not the kind who will be abused by my coworkers and not say something. If you like things fair, DO NOT WORK HERE.
