Pros

You will see things that 90% of other hospitals will never see. There is a chance to learn from some amazing minds and while there, you'll have the chance to learn things *not* mentioned in textbooks. You'll take part in teaching MLS and other students as they rotate through on clinical rotations, which helps the info really stick. Your coworkers are amazing, there are people who will send links for free CE credits, and you'll have the opportunity to sit in on really interesting webinars put on by the hospital.

Cons

You are assigned a parking lot, which you will pay for, and will get a ticket if you park anywhere else. The parking lots are an almost unwalkable distance from the actual hospital, and you are required to rely on a very *unreliable* bus system. The commute from the parking lots to the hospital can be as high as 30 mins, so it's really hard to plan for that. You're only allowed 3 call outs per YEAR, regardless of Drs notes. Anyone with kids knows this is insanely impractical. They recently raised the pay, but the benefits are about the same as the other systems in the area. Now for the -real- issues... Too many in upper management have the boomer mentality of "work is supposed to suck. We paid our dues and swallowed it, who are you to deserve better" and while they ask for suggestions, they will take personal offense if you point out something that is unnecessary and unfair. They play favorites like ignoring very incompetent techs making very large mistakes, but nit-picking others over tiny things like missing a signature on a checklist. Management will dangle possible promotions in front of you by giving you unpaid additional duties, saying it's time for you to learn how to manage additional responsibilities and grow as a tech. When you more than qualify for said promotion, they will say anything to justify denying the promotion, say they don't really think it's the right time/it's not you it's me/bullcrap so they can squeeze another year of free labor out of their techs. They tend to hire techs straight out of their own school, most of whom have never worked outside of school, at any capacity, before because they know they can take advantage of them and they will be too insecure to say anything.
