Pros

$1,000 bonus at Christmas Free Gym Free doctor visits at the VGM clinic ESOP Prior to Covid, 1 free hockey game per year Lots of free alcohol at any events or on Fridays at work

Cons

Pay is low. I had 10 years experience and double majored in college yet I started out making just below $12 an hour. Each year I get 3% raise. The work load is too much especially for the pay. Every year I have told my manager I couldn't possibly handle more and each year I get more and more dumped on me. It's also difficult to use your PTO. Each department has different rules but in my department in particular I feel guilty taking any time off. When I do take time off co-workers or management text or call me with questions. It was even difficult to take time off when a family member passed away.... I was only able to take a few hours off and then back to work. Most departments get half the day off for Christmas Eve but my department works all day Christmas Eve and the day after Thanksgiving. VGM plays favorites. Some people constantly switch departments because they can't find the right fit but they get promoted in several departments. I have 4 managers/leaders/people above me and that is pretty common in most departments I think. There's some people they just create job titles for so they will feel special and then they will put a few people under them so they are technically a manager. It's highly encouraged to be involved in activities and conferences and networking but the same old people get recognized and promoted. It's sickening how much they expect you to be involved. You may think this will help you get promoted or recognized but it will not! The whole "we are family" and "the principals" is super fake. VGM tries too hard to make themselves look good. If they see feedback about how there's not enough women managers or not enough diverse culture or not enough internal promotions at VGM then all of a sudden you will start seeing more pictures and videos as "proof" that it is not true. It's just a bunch of propaganda. There is really no set way of doing things. When I first started they didn't have anything set up for how they would train me and I didn't really get any training. When situations come up you're on your own to do what you think is best. When you're an employee at VGM everything that you do outside of work becomes a reflection of the company. You're not allowed to do what you wish on social media or out in public and you can be terminated for your actions. Also they can use any of your pictures or videos for years and years even after you have been fired. Someone from one department isn't supposed to talk to another department and disclose "secrets". All of this is in the handbook that you have to sign the handbook... you're signing away all your rights.
