Pros

Excel to develop towards distributed teamwork. Promotes the same culture and values for all the employees. Delegation and promotion driven in similar way for locals and foreigners. Health benefits are gold for foreign team members and it includes their family. Inclusive policies having same HR as so using the same communications channels for any team member. Same resources and facilities to do your work local or away. Involved in a process towards a more organic software development that would involve the client much more into the software cycle of life driven iteratively.

Cons

Its my personal opinion that they still carrying a few Old fashioned clients that would be happier if they weren't reluctant to embrace the new proposed model, over complicating project management and key metrics; they should work their way to bring these clients into Vanick new stage, otherwise these few clients will keep and probably promote too an underestimated opinion about Vanick. There is a small fraction of the resources that could be available for away team members earlier so we can become more productive earlier too.

Pros

Vanick has some of the sharpest and perceptive minds in the technology industry. This is a result of Jim and Lou seeking out top talent, and they aren't hesitant to compensate your salary based on your experience and talent. It is a fast-paced environment, and you are expected to keep up or move along. I don't see that as a negative like some would. This is an innovative company that seeks out to become a leader in the industry, and they ask their employees to utilize all of their potential. There is no micro-management which I prefer, you are just expected to get your job done. The partners Jim and Lou are extremely humble and gracious. On my first day Jim took the time out of his busy schedule to give me an extensive tour of the office, introduced me to every single employee and made me feel overly welcomed. They may not always be present in the office, but are always accessible in some way and care very much about the operations/production of the company as well as their employees. When they are there the door is always open, and they encourage you to stop in and speak your mind.

Cons

I do wish there had been some in-depth training for the in-house developed software we were required to create and manage client accounts on. You were just expected to jump in and explore it on your own which was quite overwhelming considering there was other extensive software and processes to learn at the same time. There were a couple of personalities of fellow employees that were difficult to communicate with, and unfortunately was required for my position. Of course, that is something you will encounter with any company you work for.

Pros

Some of the most positive and energetic people you will ever meet work here. There are some truly passionate and smart people working at every level of this company. The development team has got some really great developers in it and the VP is the best person I've ever worked for. You won't find another boss that works more diligently for his team than him. I would gladly work with/for him any day.

Cons

There are a few people that are notoriously difficult to work with, but that's true most any place. Management does a good job getting them to cooperate when necessary. It's also a small company, so work can be unpredictable at times. They try to be deliberate about hiring people only when there's enough work to justify it, but there's noticeable pressure to land SOWs and maintenance contracts, sometimes even if its not an ideal gig. It's just the nature of being a small company, just make sure you're prepared for it. Working out of the Nashville office, sometimes I felt like I was on the outside of the company. Vanick is based in Memphis. There are a few things throughout the year the company does to bring the greater company together, but the partners are virtually never in Nashville. If you're really interested in being successful at the company, I recommend you be in Memphis, or make plans to travel there frequently. Direction of the company is not always certain. You can somewhat see what is going on, but the messaging could be a lot better. The partners are likely planned out and deliberate, but the direction of the company seems to be reactive more so than deliberate.
