Pros

- A very welcoming environment. You are embraced for who you truly are - quirks, tattoos, constant crop tops and all. - Special bonds are made - friendships that will last you forever! - You learn a lot about yourself. You grow in so many different ways. - The culture. The history. It's not just about a simple pair of shoes on a shelf.... there's a story behind EVERYTHING. - The discount.... duh.

Cons

- The hours...... man. Shifts tend to be 4 hours. As a sales associate, you can work as little as 3 hours outside of Christmas and Summer. You obviously have more seniority as part of management. - The room to grow is small. It can be a hard process and is also very competitive. I was luckily promoted within a year and worked in two different stores. - The salary isn't impressive. There isn't a huge margin between being part of management and being a regular sales associate. - Often enough, way too much is expected of you. Of course, this depends on your higher management. I was a little easier on the sales associates. - It was my dream job at first. I was so excited to be part of such a cool team for such a cool company. However, by the near of my three year anniversary, my dream was dead.

Pros

The environment is absolutely amazing with my coworkers and they are always supportive. Any issues that arise are met with a high level of humanity - on the base level of the people I work with, because I haven't really delt with corporate. It genuinely feels nice to work here when you have a team like mine. The culture of skating is absolutely amazing to learn about at VANs and be a part of as well. I like the history behind some of the shoes, but that's probably just because I'm a history nerd.

Cons

Part time doesn't get many hours or enough pay to survive off of. However, you can't become full time unless you get a higher position. Sadly, they are incredibly hard to get, due to the fact people seem to stay with VANs if they get that promotion, just because it seems to be great to work here once you have that higher position. As well as the usual shift is 4 hours, and sometimes you only get one shift a week. It's just incredibly hard to stay here when it can't even give you enough money on your paychecks to get a small amount of groceries that'll last one person two weeks.
