Tons of politics. Architecture discussions are determined by the "strongest" manager even if it's the worst solution. Very low standards on code quality. Most of the work is maintenance. The preferred management choice for is always quick and dirty over well designed and scalable solutions. There is no place for creativity or new approaches, they go with what they know even if it's not working. Most of the managers are recruited from outside the company so there almost no room to be promoted, and no technological challenge. It's basically a grave yard for software engineers.
