Diminished Capacity - Manager Varsity Technologies Employee Review

Pros

Good team filled with hardworking employees that get along across the various teams. Diversity is actually rampant, and they go out of their way to not hire "white guys" and look at women, people of color, and provide opportunities to those who wouldn't otherwise be able to get their foot in the door.

Cons

The company claims that they're in to education and training yet expect you to be the resident expert, and don't train you in ways other than how to utilize google to find answers and to solve problems. The new "Varsity way" has lost a significant amount of employees and clients; clearly it's not working. You never know if the axe is coming for you, and the culture is one of fear and a lack of security. Having an independent mind and expertise while expected, is actually not valued, and being a sheep is not enough either. The whole mentality of the management team is not of promoting and developing an employee while at Varsity but being a point in time of which they can be great for ANOTHER company. Which leads to seeing more employee turnover than the amount of employees actually AT the company. Camaraderie at Varsity is discouraged, yet a large majority of the former employees have a network of the "displaced" and have made friends post-trauma.; akin to surviving battle together.

Varsity Technologies Response

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the input and sorry that you had a negative experience. I've head about folks feeling like they really have to work hard at Varsity and this isn't unique to us, although we need our share of improvements. We've heard this a lot from others in our industry. We need to and will do a better job of making it sustainable. As for our values and supporting people, i know first hand that the "talk" wasn't being converted into action. And i've seen that first hand and i'm proud to say that we are making great strides. A lot of people feel that we are finally making the kind of change in their role. From scheduling training time to having honest, supportive conversations. Its all hard and difficult to stay on top of as you evolve as a company, but we are very committed to our purpose and solving some of the issues you call out. Thanks again and I wish you the best of luck.

Pros

Amazing people. Love the clients. Great culture and work life balance. Innovative.

Cons

I don't have any cons. The organization has really grown over the years and we've been luck to have a lot of folks make the choice to stay long term.

Pros

-Generous wages -Vertical career mobility opportunities -Constantly learning by experience -Good benefits -Job security due to resilient revenue streams -Logical and empathetic upper management -Positive work culture -Fulfilling work with socially-driven clients -Cohesive and collaborative team dynamics -Wonderful people for clients (One of my favorite parts of this job)

Cons

-Could push harder for structured and regularly scheduled training -Being fully remote has its benefits, but an optional office could foster more collaboration and social interaction -I'd imagine the work would be extremely hard for someone who doesn't see themselves in tech or a tech-adjacent career long-term
