Pros

Working remotely Equipment provided Easy to request PTO Pretty solid health insurance benefits

Cons

Micromanaged by managers like crazy Unrealistic metrics No downtime Clients are often lied to and misled by sales reps, and you get to deal with clients yelling at you all day long Managers DO NOT help. They expect you to tell people they are not eligible for a refund even though they paid for services that Varsity Tutors was unable to deliver Sales reps are not transparent with clients and often lie to them, they don't tell clients that memberships autorenew, they don't tell clients that tutoring hours expire at the end of the month, so when clients are unexpectedly charged or lose hours they planned on using, they call in yelling and upset and all we can do is point out that they signed a contract. There is no room to breathe in between calls Managers will rush you and expect you to always be available for inbound calls If you spend too much time in wrap up, it's a problem You get a 1 hour unpaid break and 2 paid 15-minute breaks but are not allowed to use them as you wish. I tried to combine my two 15 minute breaks into one 30 minute break and was reprimanded. Reps will constantly DM you to push work onto you that they easily could have handled themselves.

Pros

The teaching platform is excellent and user-friendly. The virtual classroom includes useful features such as an interactive whiteboard, which makes online teaching effective and engaging. Experienced instructors also have considerable freedom to design their own lessons and adapt materials to students' needs, allowing for high-quality instruction. Payment is processed twice a week, and instructors can easily track their earnings through the platform, which provides transparency and convenience.

Cons

Student cancellations can be challenging, especially when they occur only minutes before class. Some sessions are repeatedly rescheduled and later canceled again, making it difficult to predict income. Policies and procedures may change frequently, requiring instructors to adapt regularly to new guidelines. Work availability can fluctuate significantly. Instructors may have many students during one period and very few later on, particularly when students complete exams or finish their school year. Overall, this can be a good opportunity for supplemental income and flexible teaching experience, but it may not be ideal as a sole or highly predictable source of income.
